2014 thus far

Hey there lovely people!

It's been a great year for me. I've met wonderful people along the way, and encountered diverse situations.

I have to say, my mother was right. The older you get, the wiser you become. This year, I have learned so much about me and how to relate with others. It's incredible! Emotional intelligence is key. This is a topic that I'll rant and rave about later. Today, I will show you some of the Gele work that I have done this year.

Below, you will see some of my 2014 Gele services...enjoy!

I have to say this, I absolutely love my job!

Changes...

As a makeup artist, I love to make people look good. Because when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you're likely to treat other people "good" (I hope).
(See exhibit a below)
When I personally feel like i have been well put together, there's a sense of happiness, contentment. However, that's just looking at my appearance.

As a PA-C, I preach on the importance of a healthy BMI. I suggest a routine exercise schedule and recommend eating 5 servings of fruits and veggies, while also incorporating whole grains and protein. (MyPlate)

Reality check: Visited my Primary Care Provider the other day, found out my total cholesterol was creeping up, AND I am totally overweight!!! Well, that was no news flash, I already knew it. But what am I going to do about it?

Aha moment: It's not all about the way you look on the outside, there's also beauty in how healthy you are. Eureka!
This is where discipline and shifting of priorities come in.

Challenge: I will undertake a weight loss challenge. I'm not one to diet, so it's going to be difficult for me.
I'll keep you updated, I'll even show some before and after pics! Well, we'll see...

Gelefied!

What a fabulous year so far!

Despite our loss, God has shown Himself strong on my family's behalf.

I will start by saying, please don't take your health for granted. If you haven't been to your health care provider, please schedule an appointment! Enough said! A word is enough for the wise.

I must say, last week, I had the privilege of providing gele services to some lovely ladies.  Thanks Taiwo for reaching out to me! Can't wait for yours!

Prevention is better than cure!

Hello out there!

I have been AWOL for a while...unfortunately, I lost my dearest, closest aunt to breast cancer. I hate cancer, with a passion.

I believe in order to fight back, we have to get screened, that is, for those cancer-causing ailments that we can now screen for. Early detection is very important!

If you are a female, it is important to know that at age 40, you should get a baseline screening mammogram of both breasts, and continue every year after. Don't forget your monthly breast exam! At 50, please get a colonoscopy, it screens for colon cancer, after that, get it done every ten years afterward. It is also good to know that once you are sexually active as a female, you have to get a Pap smear, this screens for cervical cancer - no matter how old you are. Some strains of HPV (human papillomavirus) cause cervical cancer. However, if you have not become sexually active, please start at an age that you are most comfortable with, preferably in your early 20s. It is important to know your family history, especially of both parents. If you have a parent with any cancer, please start screening for the same cancer approximately 10years before they were diagnosed.

I know that this might seem like a lot of information, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! You can ask me, or better yet, ask your PCM (Primary Care Manager/Primary Care Provider/Doctor/Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner). If you don't have one, go to a free clinic. If you don't know the closest one to you, google it.

I know that I'm talking from a U.S. perspective. There are some areas in the world that healthcare is not accessible. If this applies to you, send me some feedback, there can be someone or somewhere that i can refer you to.

Men, I have not forgotten about you! Just in case you're a male and just happen to stumble on this blog, I also have some pertinent info on screening for you. If you are of African descent or African American, get a baseline blood test for Prostate Cancer. It's called a PSA (prostate specific antigen), at the age of 40. If you are having problems with urination, groin pain, weight loss (without the intention of losing weight by exercising and dietary changes), please get a prostate exam. If your father or brother has had prostate issues or cancer, please let a healthcare professional know, you might need to get screened. Also, don't forget to get a colonoscopy at age 50, and then if normal, get it done very ten years afterward.

Well, that was a lot to take in! But, please follow through with this. Like I said earlier, "Prevention is better than cure".

Have a better day and a gorgeous week ahead!

Ciao.

Divine Touch Photography...

I have been blessed with the best of friends, and of them is Toyin. On her birthday, I treated her to a mini makeover and a photo-shoot by me!

LOL! I am slowly transitioning into a world of photography, and it is quite complicated yet exciting. Check out my work!

Jersey Wedding

I have provided makeup and gele services for so many wonderful brides, but I have to say, Taiwo is my favorite to date. She's such a sweetheart, and has a heart of platinum (far better than gold). I had the pleasure of spending the day with her, and her twin, during the traditional engagement, and then the wedding.

Mr. Ola Akanbi was the photog. Love his personality. Check him out at: http://www.olaakanbi.com
